SPOTLIGHT ON: LIGHTBOYS

Lightboys is a company that makes large scale, quality LED backlit photographs. The company was created by Designer and Craftsman, Jirko Bannas, and Creative Director and photo-book publisher, Oliver Seltmann. They are based out of Hamburg, Germany and the photographs from their online gallery are from Internationally known photographers.
I looked into Lightboys for a project once, I think their product Polaboy is so freaking cool and versatile. You can choose from their online photo gallery full of beautiful professional photos that have an eerie vintage vibe going on or you can send in your own Polaroid. I was plesantly surprised with their prices for custom piece (to get pricing information contact Lightboys via email). I think this would be a great way to add some ambient lighting to a large space, it would be a creative way to share a family photo or a wedding picture. I could see one above my fireplace!

Another product by Lightboys is the Lightwall. By using the highest quality of LED light panels and photography enlargement, Lightboys are able to create this flat and evenly lit photo panel. I would love to use this product in a bar or retail space!

The Roof Top Lights is similar to the Lightwall in technonlogy. This photo panel and lighting system is light weight and ultra-thin so it mounts to a ceiling easily.

MERVE'S HYBRID

I found industrial designer Merve Kahrama and her Hybrid Chairs via Complex. The "Zoomorphic" collection was inspired by the mythologies of parahumans and features a deer and a rabbit option. Each chair is hand made and offers a variety of leathers. I would love to see the bunny used at the head and end of a formal dining room!

FLOATING BEOPLAY TV

Hey everyone, I hope your 4th of July weekend was better than mine. My husband and I got into a car accident on Friday in the North Carolina mountains. We're pretty sure my car is totaled because the axel is bent and the air bags went off. No major injures, just brused ribs and some badly sprained muscles in my back.  Oh, and I managed to bite my knee. We stayed in the mountains until Tuesday and I've been on bed rest all week. Sorry for the lack of posts, I've been pretty drugged up! Since I've been laid up in bed all week with trashy TV and design magazines, I have a lot of cool products to share with you. The first being this Bang & Olufsen TV called Beoplay V1. TV's can be such an eye sore in residential and commercial design. The worst is when I design a beautiful bar and three weeks after the restaurant opens I find a row of TVs mounted on top! This TV is thin, lightweight and customizable. The front grill has an interchangeable fabric sleeve that comes in black, white, red, yellow, green, dark grey or silver and the frame comes in white or black. What I love the most are the mounting options. The Beoplay can be mounted on the wall, it has a floor stand, an upright table stand and the coolest option are the ceiling brackets.

CHAPLIN, MICHAEL, JEEVES AND WOOSTER

Simple and humorous, I love these hat lamps inspired by pop culture personalities. I found the fixture below on Design Milk, it's called Chaplin and it was designed by Martin Hirth. The metal lamp shade can be adjusted and set at different angles by balancing it on the wood base and it can be used as a table lamp. 

The Billie and Lean are a table and lamp combination by MONOCOMPLEX. The side table Billie and floor lamp Lean are inspired by Michael Jackson's infamous dance moves you've seen in videos for "Billie Jean" and "Smooth Criminal".

Jack Phipps designed these playful pendants made with authentic bowler and top hats. The collection represents Jeeves and Wooster, characters from a classic British comedy.

MERCEDES IN THE HOUSE

If you know me, you know I love cars a little bit more then the average girl. My Dad is a classic gear-head and some of that respect for steel and need for speed was bound to rub off on me. I stumbled across this collection and I thought to myself; what took so long! In collaboration with Formitalia Luxury Group, Mercedes-Benz is launching a high end, highly stylized line of furniture. All of the pieces I've seen have a futuristic shape that's clearly inspired by the lines and forms you see in a newer Mercedes model. The Head of Mercedes-Benz design, Gorden Wagener, describes the collection, "The various pieces of furniture reflect the progressive, dynamic design idiom of our current show cars and concept vehicles, offering an exclusive, emotional experience outside our vehicles as well." Any of these sexy items would make for an amazing statement piece in any high-end bachelor pad. The collection  was previewed in Milan this April and will launch in exclusive furniture showrooms this October, can't wait to see the price tags attached...

IPHONE MEGAPHONE

This sexy amplifying Megaphone comes from en&is, a product design company founded by Enrico Bosa (interior designer and product designer) and Isabella Lovero (jewelry designer). The Italian duo has designed some innovative products including; lighting, furniture and a very unusual textile called Silently. The Megaphone is ceramic with a light weight wood base. The shape naturally amplifies your iphone without electricity. The design is a lot of fun and would make such a cool statement piece!

PULLEY ON MY HEART STRINGS

So I know I just did a lighting post but I'm dying to share this crazy simple, beautiful floor lamp that I love, love love! While hunting for hypothetical chandeliers for my Lighting Switch-up post, I found Pulley by design studio, Monocomplex. It's made out of steel, walnut, and Teflon line and it's a completely adjustable task light. It is such a simple and well crafted design that suites the company name, Monocomplex, meaning simplicity and complex. I added some other designs by Monocomplex below Pulley.

Here is the super cool design team that makes up Monocomplex. The South Korean design studio opened in 2011, so I think we can expect some unique products from them in the future.
